The third of our five snake-themed lots is this rare 1909 British India Bombay Medical Congress silver medallion.

The obverse features Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, feeding a snake from a patera (sacrificial bowl)—a timeless symbol of medicine and healing. The reverse displays the inscription VENIENTI OCCURRITE MORBO (“Meet the disease as it comes”) alongside a mosquito, centipede, and larvae, emphasizing the medical challenges of the time.

A fascinating artifact from British India, this piece is both historically and numismatically significant.
