✨A Rare Piece of History in our Auction 1 ✨

One of the rarest items in our upcoming auction is this remarkable bronze medallion, designed by renowned 19th-century medalist Lilian Vereka-Hamilton. 🏅 Only five of these pieces were ever struck, with one sent to the Rajah of Kapurthala in 1889 for approval as a potential diplomatic gift. However, the design was never officially adopted, and the remaining four medals stayed with the Hamilton family in Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This exceptional piece was later acquired by us in a fiercely contested auction at Simmons & Simmons Galleries, London, where we found ourselves bidding against none other than the current Rajah!

A true glimpse into Victorian India 🇮🇳, the medallion features a stunning bust of Rajah Jagat Jit Singh and a scene of a prone elephant with a mahout. 🐘
